Uganda Mission Trip Information (Summer 2010)

With the Christmas season over, we can now begin to focus on what God will have us do half way around the world to help out orphans and widows in Uganda.  One of the strategic partnerships for Operation Ignite is Ukids.org, who are now taking applications for their June/July 2010 short-term mission trip.

Team #1 - June 21 thru July 15

Team #2 - July 1 - July 19th

There is an informational meeting at Adventure Church-Roseville at 10:30am on Sunday January 17.  In the meantime, please visit www.ukids.org to view the application and gain a better understanding for what God has accomplished thru U-kids and Adventure Church in Uganda.

Please let me know if you are able to attend the upcoming meeting and/or if you're ready to fill out the Ukids application.

Below is an email from Mark Gosvener, one the team team leaders, sent out just before Christmas.  Included for your information.  Keep in mind that Abundant Life Church (ALC) is the home church for U-kids (Portland, OR).   ALC's pastor, George Powell, and Rick Stedman are long time friends and have collborated in the past on mission's work completed in Uganda.
 

Hey, Gang.  The details are nailed down for the 2010 Uganda mission trip, and we’re hoping to get our teams nailed down soon.  It’s absolutely amazing to see what God has accomplished at the Seeta Orphan Village, and how it has grown to 850 children.  Mark & Susan Gosvener and Bruce & Debbie Douglas will be leading the teams this year.  There is a lot of interest, spaces are limited, and applications are already coming in.  So if you want to join us, get your applications in soon.  We expect to be able to keep the cost similar to past trips, around $3600.  There are some important changes to the application process this year.

1)       People that regularly attend Abundant Life Church should fill out the attached “ALC” application.

2)       Those not regularly attending ALC should fill out the attached Ukids application.

3)       Include a deposit check for $150 with your application.  Your check will only be cashed if you are accepted, and will be used to open your account with Delta Ministries.  Once you are accepted, and your account has been opened, the deposit is non-refundable.

Bruce and Debbie Douglas, Adam Neil and I will be leaving for Uganda January 7 to do some scouting and planning for the upcoming summer trip.  We really appreciate your support, participation and interest in the past, and look forward to working with you to continue serving the children and mums in the future.  We will be announcing a meeting soon for those interested, and will address all your questions then.  Until then………

Operation Ignite End of Year Campaign

As the first year of Operation Ignite comes to a close, we are thankful and humbled that God has allowed us to be used as a vehicle to bless his children around the World. In summary:

• Operation Ignite was approved as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in April 2009
• Supported the summer mission trip to an orphan village in Uganda with our partner uKids.
• Supported the fatherless program of Shoulder to Shoulder at the Going the Distance Together endurance walk, and Because God Cares beautification day events. Purchased a gas BBQ to support Freedom Hall.
• In partnership with Adventure Church in Roseville, we raised over $1800 towards food and baby formula for Chidamoyo Christian Hospital in Zimbabwe run by Kathy McCarty.
• Launched an innovative eBay Operation Ignite online store, and raised funds for Shoulder to Shoulder and sold Ugandan jewelry to support the uKids summer construction projects.
  

As we move towards 2010, we have three opportunities for you to partner with us:

Mexico Mission Trip Details

Dates:

· Depart: Saturday March 27, 2010

· Return: Friday, April 2, 2010

Cost: $450 per person (Fundraising may lower amount)

Purpose: To love God and love others through God by:

· Building homes for families in rural Tecate, Mexico

· Conducting VBS outreach in the community

· Building a servant heart in each of us

· Building community among our team.

Includes:

· Construction costs and tools

· Camping accommodations

· Food

· Transportation and gas*

· Daily Discipleship and worship

Operation Ignite BBQ Fundraiser makes impact in Chidamoyo Christian Hospital in Zimbabwe

On August 2, 2009, Operation Ignite was able to partner with Adventure Christian Church, Roseville CA to conduct a Sunday BBQ fundraiser to benefit Chidamoyo Christian Hospital. The funds raised are intended to assist in providing food relief and baby formula for the hospital. We were pleased to receive $1817.90 as a result of this event.

Kathy McCarty provided some pictures after they purchased some baby formula and shared this note: "Here is one of the grandmothers who is taking care of her grandaughter's because mom died of AIDs shortly after birth. We are helping to provide the milk each month. A big thank you to all who gave for this project!"

We are blessed to be able to serve Kathy McCarty’s mission at Chidamoyo Christian Hospital and look forward to continually finding ways to assist those efforts. This is James 1:27 in action.

James 1:27: "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

Uganda Mission Update (Friday 7/17/09)

Two of the Board members for Operation Ignite, Steve Dolan and Lisa Edmisten are in Uganda on a mission trip working in the Seeta orphan village as part of the annual uKids trip. Please pray for the groups safety and that God may use their efforts to expand his Kingdom and bless the orphans in the village.

Here are initial messages from Steve and Lisa:

Steve Dolan:
The orphange is quite an operation. Many hired people, activity everywhere. U-kids is paying to have another well drilled. They hit water at just 12 feet. That is a blessing. The water is so clean from this well, that is may not have to be filtered. If things continu e to go well with the water, they should have more than enough safe, clean drinking water. and yes, I am drinking the filtered water at the village. Next week is really going to be a busy week. Everyone will be busy with both construction and VBS. We are hiring Ugandans to do the digging because there is so much work. We will start on electrical next week as well. Tomorrow is church at CLC, then lunch at Chinese food (same place we went to) then 100 orphans are coming to the Ridar for baptisim in the pool. Then I leave with Robert. Traveling to his mother's house to get a goat. Someone from his village is donating it to th orphanage. We are going to put the live goat in the boot...yes the trunk of his car. I'm not making this up. I will get it on video.

Lisa Edmisten:
What a blessed first two days it's been! The pastors' wives greeted us at the airport with huge hugs and beautiful yellow and red rose bouquets for the women - we were overwelmed by their warm welcome. Little did we know that the children also had a surprise in mind for us. We headed to the orphanage around 11 AM and were greeted along the road by hundreds of children singing and waving palm fronds with such joy and excitement that it brought all of us to tears. The joyous reunion continued as we left the bus to hugs and were treated to an informal concert that began with a rousing national anthem and contained beautifully choreographed singing and dancing. A day of fellowship with the children and mums followed. It was so exciting to see everyone again and to catch up. Today we had another opportunity to visit with the children and mums. What a blessing to share our lives and find so much in common. Our construction crew began digging the ditch to the main building today - it will hold both water and electrical lines. CBS (Children's Bible School) for the older children begins on Monday, so we spent our morning preparing. Tomorrow we're praying that the container will continue to clear customs - God provided a key contact for us in Amsterdam and has worked miracles in the past two days to get things moving. Please pray that the final paperwork is cleared and we can begin unloading as soon as possible. Sunday we'll visit Christian Life Church in the morning and end the day with a baptism for over 100 of the orphans - I can't wait! Well, it's getting late and I'm off to bed. Hope all is well with each of you.

We have several 2010 mission trips to perform projects globally, and the launch of two initial events to raise support for two of our ministry partners. News Release -- Operation Ignite eBay Giving Works

One of the primary philosophies of Operation Ignite is to minimize operation costs in order to maximize the assistance provided to our projects. One exciting new opportunity is the launch of quarterly virtual auction conducted through eBay Giving Works. Due to the non-profit status, much of the typical eBay transaction fees for the seller are waived, so it syncs well with our stewardship model.

Leigh Storz will be managing these efforts and will provide more info in the upcoming weeks on the initial Auction planned for Sept 1-10, 2009. This will:

• Allow Operation Ignite to physically receive "certain" donated items prior to the auction and then make them available.
• Allows existing eBay sellers to donate a portion (10 to 100%) of their proceeds to Operation Ignite.
• Allows people to participate in a virtual silent auction over the 10 day window.
